Sidhe WiP

This is a rewrite for the sidhe from their section in the book to tailor things to having a more sidhe centric view and fit better with this game setting, hopefully to helping players who want to play Sidhe better.

Yes some of this has been taken from the book but not enough of it to matter, this is not a 100% direct cut and paste so regular Changeling: The Dreaming will be inconsistent with this site. pssst buy the new book it is really good.

Arcadian Sidhe

"This world is strange and I can feel my body as it dies all around me,
but still I must be here… I wish I recalled more."

Springing forward from the dreaming the Sidhe returned with purpose with a duty to for fill, some great deed that must be done coming from Arcadia they took mortal vessels from the wealthy and the powerful bursting into the world to bring about their great purpose, and upon entering the Autumn world they forgot.

Upon their taking on mortal forms they very suddenly could not longer remember why they had arrived.

Arcadian Sidhe unliked their Autumn counterparts came to the mortal world in a state of confusion and their inherent otherworldliness sometimes makes it very hard for them to function like many other kiths do.

The embodiment of dreams of charismatic leaders and regal nobles, a good sidhe is someone who can lead a successful mission knowing the strengths and weaknesses of all those around them, a bad sidhe can get a whole barony worked up about nothing or spend resources on something entirely frivolous and it's way too late by the time anyone realizes the Emperor has no clothes.

The problem is that no one can tell the difference between the two right away and sometimes when they do it's far too late.

There are some stable things in an Arcadian Sidhe's life, one of them being their legacies, this causes them to be far more extreme about them than most other kiths, clinging to themselves in a mighty death grip.

Others cling to the roles that the other kiths up on them, playing up a corrupt politician or an overly strict Lord only when the revolt comes to not understand why their tenants seem to have changed their minds on the ruling style they wished.

The Sidhe are a people it is easy to become entranced with, they have big noble personalities and are more beautiful and terrible than the sun. They can sometimes take over all the attention into a room when entering, the world seem to warp around them making to easy to be jealous. They do nothing in small doses if a Sidhe besides to spite someone that person will know.

The Sidhe do not recall a lot the mists have taken from them the memories of their escape and time in Arcadia, many of them feel like they on on trial for crimes they no longer recall with no way to defend themselves. Some left with the feeling that the view of them from the commoners just doesn't sound like them. Could I have done those things?

Those who managed to get behind an Arcadian Sidhe's exterior might just find a lost soul who desperately wishes a place in this world or a complete bastard. Sidhe are nothing if not complicated.

Appearance: Sidhe resemble humans, but are more beautiful and flawless than any human could be. Their features are even and balanced, from their large eyes of striking colours like silver and amethyst to the tapered points of their ears.

The stand tall and slender, their hair shining and silken, often brightly coloured. They walk with grace and a noble bearing, and the golden bells of their laughter carry a hidden sadness that hints at the constant pain of being severed from the Dreaming.

They dress, almost without exception, in the finest materials, or in chimerical gowns that defy the laws of physics.

Lifestyles: The sidhe typically hold positions of power in both the fae and mortal worlds. Used to reigning over their vassals and commanding fiefdoms, sidhe apply these skills with precision in the mortal realms of business and politics.

They shine on film and stage when they turn their interest to these pursuits. In the rare case where money and luxury do not come easily to the sidhe, their bitterness often drives them to hold up in their freeholds and try to fill the void with their dream selves.

Childling: At this stage the sidhe are curious about the world around them, this strange new Autumn World is terrible but also exciting and mysterious, they will often try to organise things if even simply an ice cream party or an expedition to the corner store. Sometimes they may become spoiled it is so easy for them to get what hey wish with wide eyes and a pleasant smile.

Wilders: A time to go on quests and do great deeds. Wilder Sidhe think they can conquer the world and it's easy for them to convince others they can often sweeping up a group to come along. In the courts, they get caught up in courtly intrigue and new duties feeling out what kind of ruler they may one day become.

Grump: Sidhe grumps are dignity and nobility embodied. They fully embrace their obligations and expect obeisance and loyalty in return. A wise grump runs her fiefdom with grace and dignity, giving the commoners a voice and helping maintain the balance between Bedlam and Banality.

A grump who has been seduced by his own power can lead his people to ruin, inviting chaos into his court. In their later years, the weight of memories of the exile presses down upon the sidhe, sending them deeper into their Legacies and causing them to lose touch with the mortal world.

Affinity: Time

Revelry: Arcadian sidhe see themselves as the purest embodiment of the Dreaming. As such, they gather Glamour through inspiring adoration and admiration in others. Attending a party and simply being visible, performing in public (whether or not the performance is actually good), and acting in some leadership capacity are all possibilities.

Unleashing: Seelie cantrips are accompanied by a shimmering aura of light too beautiful and painful to look at directly.

The sidhe appears bedecked in full courtly regalia, and those who witness the unleashing may briefly feel as though they are standing in the halls
of a great palace, they almost remember, before it finally dissipates into a lingering sense of bittersweet nostalgia.

Unearthly Beauty — Sidhe stand out in a crowd due to their beauty and regal bearing. Sidhe receive two additional dots of Appearance, even if this brings that rating above 5. When they invoke the Wyrd (p. 259), this beauty becomes overpowering.

If a sidhe invokes the Wyrd in the presence of a character, the player must roll Willpower (difficulty 8). If that roll fails, the character can only stare in awestruck wonder at the sidhe for one turn for each dot of the sidhe’s Appearance.

Noble Bearing — Sidhe carry a quiet dignity at all times. Cantrips designed to humiliate them or make them look foolish automatically fail (that does not prevent cantrips from harming them, of course, they just don’t lose their poise when it happens). Sidhe cannot botch Etiquette or Politics rolls.

Curse of Banality —While the commoner kiths have learned to make their peace with the mortal world and live within it, the Arcadian sidhe still live with their minds and hearts in the Dreaming. As such, they are even more susceptible to Banality. Each point of Banality a sidhe would receive becomes two.

Autumn Sidhe

"Beauty and grace comes with responsibility,
when no one can see you are a fool it is the most important not to act as one."

Some Sidhe were left behind, whether it was because they decided to stay or because they were on the wrong side of the gate when it closed. In more recent years while the specter of death looms over the once Arcadian Sidhe more and more of them bind themselves to human bloodlines and becoming Autumn Sidhe themselves.

The Sidhe's leadership style and much of their personality is dictated by their house, but that does no mean they do not have some universal traits.

The most obvious of these is the Sidhe's Unearthly beauty they are truly as terrible as the night and beautiful as the sea, something they could not hide even if they wished.

the Sidhe are the beautiful people and they know it, some times they are self aware and kind being careful not to step on the toes of those around them, other times and mostly the unseelie among them use this to get what they want and somehow everyone ends up going along with them.

Autumn-Sidhe.png

The Autumn Sidhe have learned that they do no need title to get others to do as they wish they can get all that with looks and charm, often a sidhe will cause a crowd to pay attention to her even if she's trying to stay quiet n a corner.

Kind Sidhe put all this to the best use they can strengthening voice of those they know to be more knowledgeable about the subject at hand, speaking for those who voices are too soft to be heard (not all Slaugh) and overall being that boss who actually listens and only gets on your case if you aren't pulling your weight.

Cruel Sidhe take this ability to put themselves over others, with their natural abilities some times their charm can overwhelm the common sense of even the most stubborn of commoners allowing them to take power and do with it as they please.

A Sidhe who is your friend can be the best person at your back, a sidhe who is your enemy can systematically turn everyone you know against you.

Sometimes it is hard to know if the Sidhe you are tagging a long with want to be of use to you or use you, but who can say no to that smile?

Appearance: Beautiful as the stars in the sky, lovely as a Sun at Sunrise, even the most homely of the Sidhe are the image of beauty and noble grace. With the slightly pointed ears they sport they maybe mistaken for Tolkein Elves. The Sidhe can be said to be truly Shining.

Autumn sidhe dress as they like to ft their changeling lifestyle, always cutting a beautiful figure among the fae, a mixture of old-world beauty and stylish new evolution.

Adoration — Autumn sidhe are better with mortals than their Arcadian cousins, but that carries problems of its own. Any time an Autumn sidhe successfully enchants or even meaningfully interacts with a mortal (successful use of Intimidation, Expression, Leadership, etc.), the Storyteller should roll the mortal’s Willpower against a difficulty of the sidhe’s Glamour rating.

Failure means that the mortal takes an extra interest in the sidhe, which can manifest as anything from persistently offering favors or discounts to asking personal questions or sharing unwelcome confidences, or even asking for pictures or autographs.

It also means the mortal has no trouble remembering every word and detail of the interaction, which can be a problem for sidhe trying to remain inconspicuous. A botch on the roll indicates the mortal either develops an unhealthy fascination with the sidhe in the case of a positive interaction, or an obsessive hatred in response to a negative one.
